Craftsman Guide / Decorative Surfaces
Application: Decorative Surfaces
Practical guide for build-up, primer selection, and application of Monostone / Rockplaster and Microquartz on decorative interior walls.
π Before Starting the Project β Physical Sample Requirement:
β’ Sample Board: Always create a physical sample of at least 60Γ60 cm in the exact color and texture for customer approval before work begins.
β’ Substrate Inspection: The surface must be solid, dry, and completely free from dust, grease, and filler residues.
β’ Dry Areas Only: These 2-layer mesh-free cement systems may only be used on decorative walls (not in wet rooms).

π‘ Choosing the Final Finish:
β’ Monostone / Rockplaster: Ready-mixed 1-component paste. Rockplaster XL provides a coarser, rustic texture, while Rockplaster L provides a smoother surface with refined movement.
β’ Microquartz: 2-component microcement providing a highly durable, mineral surface in Coarse, Medium, or Smooth textures.

1. Primer Selection
Primers for Monostone / Rockplaster
β’ Monogrip: Used on painted or normally absorbent substrates.
β’ Monoprime: Used on bare plasterboard or other highly absorbent materials.
β’ Roll out an even coat and allow to dry for 30β60 minutes to a rough, non-tacky finish before troweling.

Primers for Microquartz
β’ Forprime EPWB: Waterborne epoxy primer. Roll out an even layer without pooling.
β’ Forprime DPM + Sand: 2K epoxy primer. Roll out and fully broadcast quartz sand into the wet coat immediately.
β’ Choose primer based on substrate and preferred workflow.

2. Build-up & Application
Option 1: Monostone / Rockplaster
Fast 1-component system (XL & L).
1. Coat 1: Apply the first coat to the thickness of the grain. Smooth down with a flexible spatula/trowel to minimize ridges.
2. Drying Time: Using a fan, Coat 2 can be applied after just 1β2 hours. On larger surfaces, Coat 2 is typically applied the following day.
3. Coat 2: When smoothed properly, no intermediate sanding is needed on the same day. Trowel Coat 2 and work the surface as you go to achieve the desired texture and movement.

3. Coat 2: When smoothed properly, no intermediate sanding is needed on the same day. Trowel Coat 2 and work the surface as you go to achieve the desired texture and movement.
Option 2: Microquartz
High-durability 2-component system.
1. Coat 1 (on EPWB): Trowel the first coat of Microquartz no earlier than 30 minutes and no later than 120 minutes after rolling the primer.
2. Coat 1 (on DPM + sand): Sweep away excess sand, vacuum, and trowel the first coat after at least 6 hours of curing.
3. Coat 2: Allow Coat 1 to cure for 24 hours (until the next day). Sand lightly, vacuum thoroughly, and apply the final coat.
3. Final Sanding & Sealing
Once the final coat is dry, sand the surface lightly to the desired finish, vacuum thoroughly, and wipe clean with a microfiber cloth before applying the sealer (2 coats of topcoat).
4. Workflow & Day-by-Day Schedule
π Handover to Customer: Always hand over care and maintenance instructions to the client upon completion so the surface is properly maintained using pH-neutral cleaning products.
