Mixing Instructions & Pigmentation
Instructions for pigmenting and mixing Microquartz, Microbase XT, and Monostone.
Always pigment a full bucket of Component A at a time to ensure exact color consistency. Small partial batches can easily lead to visible color variations across the project. Pigmenting the entire bucket does not mean all material must be applied immediately—take out smaller portions as needed (ideal for the first base coat).
Pigmentation for the 2-component products (Microquartz and Microbase XT) must be completed at least 120 minutes prior to application, and is ideally prepared the day before. Once Component A is pigmented, it can be stored for months before adding the hardener.
Step 1: Pigmenting Component A (Microquartz & Microbase XT)
- "1" Shade (Microquartz): Approx. 100 g water (e.g., Feather 1).
- "2" Shade (Microquartz): Approx. 150–200 g water (e.g., Feather 2, base on approx. 150 g).
- "3" Shade (Microquartz): Requires more water due to the high pigment load. Add what is necessary to dissolve the powder completely.
- Microbase XT: Add approx. 1.5 times more water than for Microquartz (approx. 150–300 g water).
Both Microbase XT and Microquartz Coarse can be pigmented directly in the bucket. Pour the water and pigment powder directly into Component A and mix thoroughly with a paddle. Allow the material to rest for at least 120 minutes before adding the hardener.
Step 2: Adding Hardener (Component B)
• Microquartz: Mixed 916 : 84 (one 500 g bottle of Comp B to one 5.5 kg bucket of Comp A).
• Microbase XT: Mixed 92 : 8 (800 g of Comp B to one 9.2 kg bucket of Comp A).
Step 3: Final Water Adjustment Before Application
Once the hardener is fully blended, add the remaining quantity of water to reach the optimal troweling consistency.
You can always add more water, but you can never remove it. Start with a smaller amount and increase cautiously if needed. To ensure an entirely uniform color across the entire surface, use the exact same total amount of water across all buckets on the final coat.
Stated in grams of water per 1 kg of finished material (including the water added during pigmentation in Step 1):
| Product Type | Water Volume per kg | Percentage (%) | Characteristics |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microbase XT | 20–80 g | 2–8% | Base coat. Adjust water content based on temperature and substrate. |
| Microquartz Smooth & Medium | 20–40 g | 2–4% | Lower water content provides maximum opacity and body. |
| Microquartz Coarse | 30–90 g | 4–9% | Typically 5–6% on walls and small floors, 7–9% on larger floors. |
Pigmentation of Monostone (XL & L)
• Water Volume: Add 50–200 g clean water to the pigment.
• Minimizing Pigment Streaks: To minimize the risk of pigment spotting or streaking, dissolve the pigment in the water in a separate container before pouring it into the bucket.
• Mixing: Mix mechanically with a paddle mixer thoroughly to ensure the pigment is evenly distributed throughout the paste.
