Forcrete — Step by Step & Application Tips for Bathrooms

Complete guide for system build-up, layer systems, and workflow in bathrooms from substrate preparation to sealing.

🛑 Before Starting the Project — Sample Board Required:
• Always make a sample of at least 60×60 cm in the correct color and texture for client approval before starting.
• Drying Times & Ventilation: Forcrete is completely waterproof, which prevents moisture from escaping afterward. Keep doors open and use fans so each layer is 100% dry before starting the next.
• Review any site conditions and unevenness with the client before commencing work.
🧪 Primer:
Always prime the surface with an appropriate primer based on the substrate and chosen base coat. Ensure the primer is thoroughly dry before troweling begins.

1. Build-up of Bathroom Walls

Layer 1: Base Coat (Monostone XL / Microbase XT)

Reinforce with 160 g mesh and trowel out the base coat to the grain thickness. Smooth off with flexible steel for minimal sanding.

Layer 2: Base Coat (Monostone XL / Microbase XT)

Sand layer 1 with a 50 diamond pad and vacuum thoroughly. Trowel layer 2 and ensure the surface is 100% dry through before starting Microquartz.

Layer 3: Microquartz Coarse

Sand the base coat with a 50 diamond pad and vacuum. Trowel a full-coverage coat of Microquartz Coarse.

Layer 4: Final Coat Microquartz (Coarse, Medium, or Smooth)

Sand lightly with a 50 diamond pad. Trowel the final layer of Microquartz using your chosen finish and technique.

2. Build-up of Bathroom Floors

Layer 1: Forprime HB (Base Coat with Reinforcement Mesh)

Fasten the reinforcement mesh to the floor and trowel out Forprime HB. Fully blind the surface immediately with quartz sand.

Layer 2: Forprime HB / Microbase XT

Sweep up excess sand. Grind the floor with a concrete grinder (30 grit diamonds) to level the surface and remove any bubbles from the mesh. Grind edges carefully and apply layer 2 of Forprime HB (+ sand blinding) or Microbase XT.

Layer 3: Microquartz Coarse

Sweep up sand, sand flat with a 50 diamond pad, and vacuum thoroughly. Trowel Microquartz Coarse and protect adjacent walls from splashes.

Layer 4: Final Coat Microquartz (Coarse, Medium, or Smooth)

Sand the floor with a 50 diamond pad (for Coarse) or 100 diamond pad (for Medium/Smooth). Vacuum thoroughly, mask the base of the walls, and apply the final coat.

3. Final Sanding & Sealing

Once the final coat of Microquartz has cured, sand all surfaces to the desired finish, vacuum thoroughly, and wipe down with a microfiber mop prior to sealing:

4. Workflow & Day-by-Day Schedule

Bathroom Stages
Day 1
Cover & mask. Prime walls and floor. Reinforce with mesh and apply Wall Layer 1.
Day 2
Sand wall layer 1 and vacuum. Apply Wall Layer 2. Fit mesh on floor and apply Floor Layer 1 (Forprime HB + sand).
Day 3
Sweep sand. Sand walls and apply Microquartz Coarse (Wall Layer 3). Sand floor layer 1 and apply Floor Layer 2 (Forprime HB + sand or Microbase XT).
Day 4
Sand wall layer 3 and apply Final Coat Microquartz on walls. Sand floor layer 2 and apply Microquartz Coarse (Floor Layer 3).
Day 5
Sand floor layer 3, mask wall base, and apply Final Coat Microquartz on floor.
Day 6
Final sanding of walls and floor. Vacuum and microfiber mop extremely thoroughly. Apply topcoat.
📑 Handover to End Client: Always provide care and maintenance instructions to the client upon finishing the bathroom so the surface is properly maintained with recommended pH-neutral cleaning agents.
