Forcrete β€” Forprime HB & FL

Complete guide for usage, mixing, application, and sand blinding of the epoxy base coats Forprime HB and FL.

πŸ’‘ About Forprime HB & FL:
Forprime HB and FL are 2-component epoxy-based base coats for floors and tiles. They are used to embed reinforcement mesh and build an extremely hard, rigid, and waterproof substrate. HB is more viscous and bridges wider grout joints slightly better than FL. The surface is always fully blinded with quartz sand to ensure mechanical adhesion for the next layer.
πŸ“± Coverage & Technical Information:
β€’ Coat 1 (Forprime HB / FL): approx. 1.5–1.75 kg/mΒ².
β€’ Coat 2 (Forprime HB / FL): approx. 0.7–1.0 kg/mΒ².
β€’ Quartz Sand: approx. 2.5–4 kg/mΒ² per coat. Scatter quartz sand generously into the wet epoxy until the surface is completely saturated. Sweep up and collect excess sand once cured for reuse.
⚠️ Important Information Before Starting:
β€’ Working Temperature: Material, substrate, and room air must be between +10 Β°C and +25 Β°C.
β€’ Substrate: The surface must always be primed with Forprime DPM or Forprime EPST prior to applying HB/FL.
β€’ Sand Blinding: Broadcast quartz sand immediately into the wet epoxy so the surface is fully saturated.
β€’ Pot Life: Approximately 20–30 minutes. Pour the mixed material out onto the floor in ribbons immediately after mixing to prevent it from setting up in the bucket.

1. Primer & Substrates

Before applying Forprime HB or FL, the substrate must always be primed. Select the correct primer for your substrate here:

2. Substrate Preparation & Setup

1.
Inspect the Primer: Ensure that Forprime DPM or EPST has fully cured. The surface must be clean and dry.
2.
Fit Mesh (Coat 1): Roll out 160 g reinforcement mesh on the floor and spot-glue it with a hot-melt glue gun. Lay mesh widths edge-to-edge without overlapping to avoid thick seams.

3. Mixing

πŸ§ͺ Mixing Forprime HB / FL:
β€’ Pour the entire contents of Component B into the bucket containing Component A.
β€’ Mix with a mechanical paddle mixer at low speed for at least 2–3 minutes until completely smooth.
β€’ Thoroughly scrape the sides and bottom of the bucket and mix again to ensure complete incorporation.
β€’ Immediately pour the material onto the floor to prevent premature curing in the bucket.

4. Application & Sand Blinding

Coat 1: Forprime HB/FL over Mesh + Sand Blinding
β€’ Application: Pour out the epoxy and spread it evenly over the mesh using a notched or flat trowel (coverage approx. 1.5–1.75 kg/mΒ²).
β€’ Sand Blinding: Scatter generous amounts of quartz sand (approx. 2.5–4 kg/mΒ²) directly into the wet epoxy until fully blinded and no wet epoxy is visible.
β€’ Curing: Allow to cure overnight (at least 12–16 hours).
β€’ Intermediate Grinding: Sweep up and save excess sand. Vacuum clean and grind the surface smooth with a diamond concrete grinder. Vacuum thoroughly once more.
Coat 2: Forprime HB/FL (Second Base Coat) + Sand Blinding
β€’ Purpose: Applied to completely eliminate any remaining joint shadowing and surface imperfections.
β€’ Application: Apply a full second coat of Forprime HB/FL (coverage approx. 0.7–1.0 kg/mΒ²) and immediately blind with quartz sand (approx. 2.5–4 kg/mΒ²).
β€’ Curing & Sanding: Allow to cure overnight. Sweep up and collect excess sand. Sand the surface with 40-grit sandpaper or a 50 diamond pad and vacuum thoroughly before applying the first coat of Microquartz Coarse.

5. Sanding & Next Steps

Once the base coat is sanded and vacuumed clean, proceed with Microquartz:

πŸ›‘ Safety & Protective Equipment:
β€’ The product contains epoxy resins and may cause skin irritation.
β€’ Always wear nitrile gloves during mixing and application.
β€’ Wear safety glasses during mechanical mixing.
β€’ Wear a dust mask when sanding and broadcasting sand.
β€’ Ensure good ventilation in the room and keep out of reach of children.
⏱️ Curing & Cleaning:
β€’ Curing Time: Approximately 12–16 hours (overnight) before sweeping sand and sanding.
β€’ Tool Cleaning: Clean tools with acetone immediately after use before the epoxy sets.
