Practical guide for priming absorbent substrates prior to microcement application.
Suitable Substrates
Use Primacem ABS on absorbent surfaces to saturate the substrate and provide strong adhesion. The product is ready-mixed and can be applied directly from the packaging onto the following substrates:
• MDF and other absorbent wood/board materials
• Tile adhesive, self-leveling screed, and concrete
Preparation & Application
• Flatness: Level the substrate carefully in advance. Microcement builds very thinly and will not conceal underlying irregularities.
• Execution: Roll or brush out the primer evenly to cover the entire surface without dry patches. Maintain working temperatures between +10 °C and +30 °C.
• Number of Coats: Apply typically in 1 fully covering coat.
Drying Times & Application Window
The primer is touch-dry after approximately 20–30 minutes under normal room ventilation and temperature. Use a fan if necessary to accelerate drying.
• Wait at least 30 minutes after priming before starting to trowel, ensuring the film is completely dry.
• Trowel the first coat of microcement within 24 hours of the primer drying.
Next Steps: Reinforcement & Base Coat
Once the primer has dried, proceed with reinforcement mesh and base coat application:
• Ensure adequate room ventilation.
• Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Keep out of reach of children.
