Topciment — Pure Mettal

Practical guide for Pure Mettal two-component metallic coating on interior and exterior walls and decorative features. Not intended for floors.

📋 Important Before Application:
Substrates: Apply directly onto sound, level, and clean surfaces, such as painted drywall. No microcement base is required on decorative walls.
Contrast Effect with Microcement: When applying over microcement (preferably in the shade Negro), you can opt to trowel only 1 coat of Pure Mettal to create striking contrasts where the dark base reveals itself underneath.
Coverage: Applied directly to a painted wall, the system achieves full opacity in 2 coats. No specific base paint color is required.
Always Create a Sample Board: Always produce a physical sample with your chosen finish before starting the project. Metallic coatings are expressive and artisanal—the client must understand that tonal shifts and finish vary naturally.
Choice of Surface Finish & Texture:
Polished Metallic Finish Only: Aim for a completely smooth application. If the surface texture is too coarse, only the high points will polish while depressions remain dull, reducing the overall sheen.
Oxidized and Polished Finish (Patina): Build slightly more texture into the material. The texture allows the patina to settle and remain protected in the low recesses when burnishing the high points.

Mixing Ratios (By Weight)

The mixing ratios below are reference values for trowel application. Adjust consistency according to application method and desired texture (slightly more liquid if rolling, or firmer if modeling heavy texture):

Pure Mettal Bronze: 3 parts Powder (A) + 1 part Resin (B)
Pure Mettal Iron: 3 parts Powder (A) + 1 part Resin (B)
Pure Mettal Brass: 3 parts Powder (A) + 1 part Resin (B)
Pure Mettal Aluminium: 2 parts Powder (A) + 1 part Resin (B)
Pure Mettal Copper: 2 parts Powder (A) + 1 part Resin (B)

Technical Application Data

Estimated Coverage: Coat 1: approx. 300 g/m² | Coat 2: approx. 260 g/m² (dependent on substrate flatness and technique).
Drying Time Between Coats: Approx. 2 hours at +20 °C.
Curing Time Before Finishing: At least 12–24 hours depending on coat thickness and ventilation.

Step-by-Step Application

1.
Coat 1: Unless applying over a dark microcement layer for contrast: trowel a first even, thin coat across the entire surface. Allow to dry for approx. 2 hours.
2.
Coat 2: Apply the second coat. This is where you create the final surface texture, pattern, or smooth plane suited to your intended finishing method.
3.
Drying: Allow the material to dry overnight (at least 12–24 hours) before polishing, oxidizing, or sealing.

Finishing Methods

☢️ Option A — Oxidation (Patina Effect)
Inform the client that chemical oxidation yields organic, living results that vary naturally.
  1. Wait 24 hours after the final coat of Pure Mettal (starting too early causes the surface to turn white).
  2. Apply the oxidation activator with a roller, sponge, or spray bottle depending on the desired pattern.
  3. Wait 3 hours. If a stronger patina is desired, apply more activator and repeat the process until satisfied.
  4. Allow the surface to dry for 24 hours after oxidation before polishing or sealing.
Option B — Polishing (Mechanical Lustre Development)
Polish at low speed with steady movements. Moving the machine or pad too quickly across the surface prevents gloss development. Always wipe the surface clean with a dry microfiber cloth between each grit progression—trapped sanding dust will scratch and dull the finish.
  1. Begin polishing no earlier than 12 hours after the final Pure Mettal coat (or 24 hours after oxidation).
  2. Sand and polish sequentially through the grit stages: 400 Grit → 800 → 1500 → 3000. Do not skip grit steps.
  3. Polish to at least 1500 grit for fine metallic shine, followed by your chosen sealer.

Sealing & Protection

Select the sealing system based on the room environment and anticipated exposure:

Waxing (Dry Decorative Surfaces): On decorative surfaces not exposed to water or mechanical abrasion, seal with wax. Wax maximizes metallic depth and preserves natural luster.
Topcoating (Water- and Wear-Exposed Areas): In areas exposed to water splashes or wear, apply 1 coat of Topsealer Pro-Plus (as a dense barrier), followed by 2 coats of Topsealer Dragon. This slightly softens the raw metallic sheen but is the only durable solution for wet environments.
🛑 Safety & Protective Equipment:
• Wear nitrile protective gloves and safety goggles during mixing and application.
• Wear respiratory protection with particulate filters (P2/P3) when handling metallic powders and during all sanding/polishing.
• Ensure good ventilation. Clean tools with water immediately after use.
