Application: Tile Floors & Pavers

Practical guide for build-up, layer systems, and application of Forcrete microcement on tile floors and pavers.

🛑 Before Starting the Project — Pre-Start Checklist:
• Sample Board: Always create a physical sample of at least 60×60 cm in the correct color and texture for client approval.
• Substrate Inspection: Check moisture levels, cracks, and any substrate movement thoroughly.
• Underfloor Heating: Turn off underfloor heating completely at least 24 hours before commencing work.
• Always review any substrate defects with the client prior to starting.
💡 Considerations for Tile Substrates:
• No Pre-filling on Normal Joints: Two coats of Forprime HB/FL will completely bridge and conceal standard grout lines.
• Large Joints or Uneven Surfaces: If tiles are uneven or grout lines are unusually deep and wide, a thin self-leveling screed is recommended before starting.
• Check for Hollow Tiles: Tap across the entire floor to detect hollow or loose tiles. Secure or remove all loose tiles.

1. Substrate Preparation & Setup

Remove Soft Joints: Cut away all silicone and soft expansion joints in corners and transitions. Microcement does not adhere to silicone.

Concrete Grinding: Grind tiles with diamond tooling to abrade the glaze and flatten lipped tile edges. Vacuum the surface completely clean of grinding dust.

2. Build-Up: Tile Floors & Pavers

Primer: Forprime DPM

Roll Forprime DPM evenly across the entire ground surface. Allow to cure for at least 6 hours (preferably until the next day).

Layer 1: Forprime HB/FL (Base Coat with Reinforcement Mesh)

Spot-glue the reinforcement mesh to the floor using a glue gun, edge-to-edge without overlapping. Trowel the first coat of Forprime HB/FL and fully broadcast quartz sand into the wet epoxy immediately. Allow to cure.

Layer 2: Forprime HB/FL (Base Coat)

Sweep up and reclaim excess sand. Concrete-grind the surface flat and vacuum thoroughly. Trowel the second coat of Forprime HB/FL and fully blind the surface with sand again to eliminate all remaining joint shadows. Allow to cure.

Layer 3: Microquartz Coarse

Sweep up sand, sand smooth with 40 grit, and vacuum thoroughly. Trowel the first coat of pigmented Microquartz Coarse.

Layer 4: Final Coat Microquartz (Coarse, Medium, or Smooth)

Sand layer 3 lightly and vacuum. Trowel the final coat of Microquartz in the chosen grain size and finish.

3. Final Sanding & Sealing

Once the final coat of microcement has cured, sand the entire surface smooth with 50–200 grit depending on the selected finish. Vacuum and wipe down the floor with extreme care using a microfiber cloth prior to applying sealer.

4. Workflow & Day-by-Day Schedule

Check for hollow tiles, remove soft joints, concrete-grind tiles, and roll Forprime DPM.
Day 2
Glue reinforcement mesh, trowel Layer 1 Forprime HB/FL, and blind to saturation with sand.
Day 3
Sweep sand, concrete-grind, and trowel Layer 2 Forprime HB/FL with sand blinding.
Day 4
Sweep sand, sand down (40 grit), and trowel Microquartz Coarse (Layer 1).
Day 5
Sand lightly and trowel Final Coat Microquartz (Coarse, Medium, or Smooth).
Day 6
Final sanding, thorough vacuuming, and apply sealer/topcoat.
⚡ Time-Efficient Fast-Track (Save 1 Day):
If schedule is tight, the workflow can be shortened by a full day. Concrete-grind and roll Forprime DPM in the morning. As soon as the primer has dried, glue the mesh and trowel the first layer of Forprime HB/FL with full sand blinding that same afternoon.
⏳ Curing and Surface Loading:
• Foot Traffic: The floor can be walked on carefully in socks after 24 hours.
• Furniture: Do not place furniture on the floor for at least 5 days. Always use protective felt pads.
• Covering & Rugs: Do not cover the floor with rugs or protective paper for at least 14 days, as the topcoat requires time to fully cure and breathe.
• Water & Cleaning: Do not expose the surface to water or cleaning chemicals during the first 7 days.
